Amplifying Women’s Voices in the FHIR community
Welcome to Women for FHIR, an initiative dedicated to ensuring that women’s perspectives are heard, valued, and integrated into healthcare and health technology. Since launching at FHIR DevDays 2023 in Amsterdam, Women for FHIR has been a space for connection, collaboration, and empowerment—where everyone passionate about advancing female representation in healthcare can come together to drive change.
Why Women for FHIR
Healthcare is not one-size-fits-all, yet women’s voices remain underrepresented in both the workforce and clinical decision-making. From research gaps in female health to the lack of gender-aware technology solutions, it’s critical that we bring attention to these disparities and drive meaningful change.
Women for FHIR exists to:
- Champion women’s perspectives in healthcare—ensuring that female-specific health needs are considered in FHIR standards, interoperability frameworks, and clinical applications.
- Create a platform for advocacy and awareness—elevating the importance of gender-informed healthcare technology and policy.
- Foster leadership and participation—supporting women as experts, speakers, and leaders in the interoperability community.
- Build a supportive network—connecting individuals across healthcare and technology to collaborate, mentor, and innovate.
This year, Women for FHIR is expanding its focus to female healthcare, recognizing the biological and clinical differences between women and men. By raising awareness and advocating for the inclusion of female health considerations in all healthcare technology projects, we are driving a more equitable and effective future for all.
At the same time, Women for FHIR remains a space for networking, mentorship, and collaboration. Whether at FHIR DevDays or through ongoing initiatives, we continue to bring people together to exchange knowledge, support one another, and strengthen the FHIR community.
Join us in shaping a healthcare ecosystem where women’s voices are not just heard—but lead the way. .

Looking Ahead: Women for FHIR at DevDays 2025
We’re excited for an impactful 2025! This year, Dr. Talat Uppal, an Australian clinician and advocate for female healthcare, will join us for a keynote on the importance of gender-aware healthcare and how technology can help.
We’ll host a Let’s Build session on Heavy Menstrual Bleeding, where Dr. Talat Uppal and DevDays participants will collaborate on real FHIR solutions. This is a hands-on opportunity to experiment, build, and apply our skills to a female healthcare use case. Everyone is welcome to join, contribute, and help drive this important topic forward.
And, as always, Women for FHIR is about connection—with dedicated networking moments including the Women for FHIR dinner on Day 1. This year, you can also pick up a Women for FHIR badge (at the registration desk) to show your support!
