HL7 FHIR DevDays
Impact Showcase
Submission Deadline: April 1, 2025
Celebrating the power of FHIR
The daily work of FHIR developers often involves navigating complex technical challenges—discussions about data points, connections, bug fixes, error codes, and much more. Yet behind these technicalities lies a profound goal: improving healthcare for patients and clinicians alike.
That’s what the FHIR Impact Showcase at DevDays 2025 is all about—highlighting how FHIR implementations are making real-world impacts. We want to celebrate how your work contributes to a better healthcare ecosystem.
About the FHIR Impact Showcase
At FHIR DevDays 2024, we introduced the Implementer Award where we saw innovative FHIR implementations such as Synapxe’s Healthier SG project. But then we thought: why does there need to be a winner? We want to celebrate ALL great FHIR implementations! And that’s why we’ve changed the concept and name this year. We want to go beyond showcasing great (technical) implementations—we want to celebrate real-world impact.
The FHIR Impact Showcase will highlight inspiring projects from around the globe that demonstrate how FHIR contributes to better care, greater efficiency, and improved job satisfaction for healthcare professionals.
Who can participate?
Anyone! Whether you’re attending DevDays in Amsterdam or not, you can submit your impactful FHIR implementation project. We also welcome nominations of projects you’re not directly involved in. Selected projects will be showcased during a dedicated session at DevDays, either in-person or virtually, followed by a panel discussion to explore their real-world impacts.
Submission criteria
- Contribution to better healthcare: Explain how the project actively contributes to better healthcare. Share real-world examples and success stories that highlight the positive impact on patient outcomes, safety, and overall quality of care.
- User impact: Highlight how the solution benefits players in the healthcare ecosystem, whether it’s patients, clinicians, researchers, or others. Bonus: bring a user to present their experience!
- Business value: Showcase tangible outcomes for users like cost savings, revenue generation, or improved operational efficiency.
- Proven success: Provide evidence of real-world impact. Share statistics about the number of users, the adoption of the solution, or the business value that it generated.
- FHIR at its core: Needless to say, but the implementation must be FHIR-based.
Why participate?
When you’re deep in the trenches of programming, it can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture—beyond the joy of solving complex problems! The Impact Showcase is here to inspire and celebrate those who are driving healthcare transformation through innovation and interoperability. By participating, you’re not only showcasing your incredible work but also motivating the FHIR community to continue making a difference in healthcare.
The FHIR Impact Showcase is an opportunity to:
- Gain recognition: Highlight your team’s achievements and innovation to the global FHIR community and gain industry recognition.
- Network: Connect with like-minded professionals, industry leaders, and potential collaborators, everyone at DevDays will recognize you!
- Inspire: Share your project’s impact to motivate others in the FHIR community.
- Leverage your video: Use the professionally created video (that we’ll share with you afterwards) for your own marketing or advocacy efforts.
How to submit
Send in your FHIR implementation project before April 1, 2025 via the form below.
You can also nominate a project or application that you have not been involved in but about which you are knowledgeable. If the project is selected, we’ll collaborate with the project owners to bring their story to the stage.
What happens next?
If your project is selected for the Impact Showcase, you’ll hear from us by April 15, 2025.
Preparing for FHIR DevDays
Between April 15 and May 15, we need you to be available to work with us on creating a short video about your implementation. Please ensure the following people are available to collaborate:
- A user sharing their real-life experience with the project.
- A FHIR implementer who can highlight the FHIR part.
- A business representative to present the project’s goals and business value.
During FHIR DevDays
The Impact Showcase will be presented on the main stage. If you are in Amsterdam, you will be invited on stage. If not, you’ll join the panel discussion remotely. And if possible, invite a user of your application as well!
After FHIR DevDays
The Impact Showcase video will be shared on social media and other platforms, amplifying your project’s reach and impact.
FAQs
How is the FHIR Impact Showcase different from the regular Call for Presentations?
Throughout FHIR DevDays, we shine a spotlight on FHIR implementations, but the FHIR Impact Showcase takes it a step further. It emphasizes the real-world impact on people—patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems—beyond just technical success. If your project fits both the regular DevDays sessions and the Showcase, that’s great! We’re excited to feature as many impactful implementations as possible.
Do I get a DevDays ticket if my project is selected?
Selection for the FHIR Impact Showcase does not include a ticket to DevDays. While we’d love to have you join us in Amsterdam, tickets must be purchased separately. If attending in person isn’t an option, you can still participate virtually if your project is chosen for the Showcase.
