FHIR DevDays 2024 Schedule Announced

Rien Wertheim

Unlock your FHIR potential: don’t miss out on these must-attend sessions

We’re excited to unveil the jam-packed schedule for FHIR DevDays 2024, and trust us, you won’t want to miss a single session. With over 100 speakers and 130+ sessions taking place from June 10 to 13 in Minneapolis, this year is set to be our biggest yet! You’ll have your pick of keynotes, tutorials, community talks (about real-life projects), birds-of-a-feather discussions on experimental topics, and hands-on Let’s Build! sessions.

The schedule includes an exciting mix of submissions from the community and handpicked topics from industry experts. Whether it’s introductory sessions or deep dives into advanced topics like CQL and data validation, there’s something for everyone.

Our Call for Presentations drew a number of submissions reflecting the current landscape of FHIR, and in particular, the buzz surrounding AI in healthcare. Topics like LLM, ChatGPT, and Machine Learning featured strongly in the submissions, highlighting the industry’s thirst for innovation. We qualified the many proposals according to their maturity, relevance from a FHIR perspective, and the importance of their contribution to the FHIR ecosystem.

Our main focus for the assessment of the submissions remained on real-life implementation and the associated lessons learned from projects on the ground. FHIR has outgrown its infancy. It’s trying to find its way into the real world, moving from pilots, proof-of-concepts and getting-our-feet-wet projects, to business-critical applications. Implementing FHIR is much harder than creating FHIR.

We experience the unruliness every day in customer projects. Things like: performance, high-volume data processing, data synchronization, write-back operations, security, data harmonization, multi-tenant deployment, hybrid cloud, and on-premise infrastructure: these are the things the implementers have to deal with. At DevDays, we’re giving implementers the platform to share their insights and best practices, helping our community to navigate the complexities of real-world FHIR adoption.

In order to recognize the exemplary implementation projects that are so integral to our industry, we’re thrilled to launch the new DevDays Implementer Award. This award aims to spotlight applications that contribute significantly to organizational goals and the improvement of patient care, the increased job satisfaction of doctors and nurses, or healthcare efficiency. If you’re attending DevDays, don’t miss the opportunity to nominate your project or a deserving peer to become the very first winner for this award!

Fun stuff

Fun stuff, you bet. This is DevDays after all! We’ll have the annual DevDays run and plenty of social events (we’re keeping the details a secret for now). And a fan favorite returns – the Nerds Track, where all in-person attendees can compete for the coveted Nerd Award.

The HL7 Working Group Meetings and FHIR Connectathons is where the standard is built, but DevDays is where the rubber hits the road. So join us for the hottest FHIR event on the calendar, where the community comes together to drive innovation and shape the future of healthcare interoperability.
